Sodium hydroxide is a basic chemical raw material, widely used in the textile industry, 

including papermaking, synthetic detergents and soaps, viscose fibers, rayon, and cotton fabrics; the pesticide, dye, rubber, and chemical industries;

oil drilling, and the petroleum industry for refining petroleum grease and tar; 

as well as in the defense industry, machinery, wood processing, metallurgy, pharmaceuticals, and urban construction. 

It is also used in the manufacture of chemicals, paper, soaps and detergents, rayon, and cellophane; 

in the processing of bauxite to produce alumina; and in the mercerizing of textiles and water treatment.
